News Headlines

Glowing puppies. Equine tragedies. Swine flu borderline-epidemics. Since so much of Eleventh Hour is dependent on the controversial, the groundbreaking, and the just plain weird, I thought a separate thread might not be a bad idea.

If Jacob and Rachel were existing in our universe right now, what's the betting they'd be hopping around the States and Mexico, fighting to help contain the Swine flu outbreak?

Smart alecks. :-P

Any thoughts on the swine flu? Suppose it hasn't come far enough North to bother you Canadian girls.

According to one of my friends, there have been 19 cases in Canada.

Whoop, no, it was 13 according to this April 28th article.

No way! I didn't realize it had actually spread that far, I figured you guys would be safe from it for a while... evidently a number of schools in our area have already started shutting down for fear of it running rampant through the student body. And if I recall correctly, there was a death from it earlier today in Texas?

Yes, an infant. :(

I am keeping my son home from schools, libraries, etc. Just not worth it.

Oh man. I haven't been keeping track of it at all because, well, Canadian. Our thirteen cases were all 'expected and mild'.

That and I never keep track of the news anyway.

Things like this... it really kinda scares me. It's completely random, gaining momentum very quickly, and difficult to catch and treat in time. Obviously, it's also spreading like a bloody wildfire. Don't know the numbers - is it worse yet than the SARS outbreak from a few years ago?

I dunno, I didn't pay attention to SARS either.

I think this swine flu would be an excellent case for Hood only if he were to discover a vaccine by analyzing the virus.

The swine hysteria is ridiculous here. Now we can't go to the movies (and they're delaying the Angels and Demos premiere) because of that!!!!

Oh, that suuucks!

I'm totally going to be working in a lab with samples of the swine flu, guys! (Well, they had samples at one point... I'm sure they still have it now.)

It's H1N1 now, isn't it?

I'd totally get infected if Jacob could come and save me ;)

They're putting off a major movie premiere? Wow, this really is worse than I thought. I didn't think anything stopped Hollywood.

Yeah, but they might change their minds since they say that the danger is decreasing as well as the cases.
I really wanted to see Angels and Demons! I hate the swine flu! I hate the Mexican Government for overreact and manipulate the ignorant Mexican people.
Sorry... What was the topic again?

(laughs) Currently, swine flu and it's effects. Rant away. The Mexican gov't's current actions fall under 'effects of swine flu.' And I really want to see A&D too. After we've both seen it, we can start a new discussion thread and compare notes, yeah? :D

Also, have you read the original book?

Of course Sarah! :D

I've read the book twice. I read it several years ago, right after I finished The Da Vinci Code and with the movie coming out I decided to read it again. It is very good.

Have you read the book?

I have indeed. I've already read A&D twice, and DaVinci Code is one of my favorites, I think I've read that three or four times. I've just finished Digital Fortress (one of his older books, a little outdated but still very good) and right now I'm about halfway through Deception Point, another of his earlier titles. As far as I know, those four are the only ones he's written, but I'll definitely be looking after I finish Deception Point to see if he's done anything more.

I love his work because it truly keeps you guessing - almost impossible to tell who's really the bad guy until the end. He's a very gifted author, and I love how much I learn from his works!

(laughing) Uh, yeah, remind me to add a 'Dan Brown: Books and Movies' thread later so that Nikki can move all this... or just 'Misc. Entertainment', so there's somewhere to talk about X-Men and Ironman, too? Maybe we should have a separate 'Comics' thread as well....

I'm currently reading Digital Fortress... and laughing my way through. So melodramatic. I love how he waxes poetry about Susan every other page and yet I don't even really know what David looks like...

I think this is why my mom prefers to read books written by women, XD

And, yeah, he's written a grand total of four books.

I can make a thread about books, sure. And one about comics. And another for movies. XD Despite the massive overlap between the three >.>;

I like the melodrama. And he does describe David, too. (snicker) The end of that book is pretty remarkable, but do keep in mind the computer science in it is over ten years out of date. Of course you would be laughing.

Yeah, I totally wasn't expecting much from this book anyway - it's his first published novel and all.
