I really enjoyed that story Joyce - i do like the Jacob/Rachel/Felix dynamic that you do so well. And I can imagine Rachel's discomfort in the middle of a wedding dress shop with a group of giggling friends. Especially to have Jake come in and see her - hahahaha.

And he felt sick - thought she was picking the dress for herself to marry someone else in. Poor lovie. And you think i'm mean to him. How much meaner could you be!!! :D

But i do love that you still managed to make a mention of the state of his cock - because what would an EH story be these days without knowing what his dick is thinking!!!

It makes me laugh, because we always used to think he was off in science land when he had that look on his face - now we know it's somewhere completely different. You're a bad, bad man Jacob Hood!!!

That line almost didn't make it in the story. But then I thought, nah, he's thinking about Rachel, naked, of couse his cock is going to react.

I dont' think I was too mean to Jacob. He knew Rachel wasn't seeing anyone, he'd been keeping her much to busy for that. He just needed a little nudge to remind him that there was more than one way he could lose her if he kept dithering around not telling her that he was in love with her.

Great story, Joyce! Very funny, and it's great to have some of the gaps in their story filled in. I always like your Felix. I think you have him down so well.

Also, it was a good reminder to go back and reread Snow Day. That's one of my favorite EH stories.

I don't think you were too hard on Jacob. He needed more than a nudge--he needed a big shove, if he still couldn't bring himself to say anything after what happened in Medea.

because what would an EH story be these days without knowing what his dick is thinking!!!

Well, it is usually their dominant source of thought, isn't it? ;)

Sorry Joyce, i didn't intend to suggest that you were mean to him overall.

I just really loved that moment when he looked at her and felt sick. I thought you captured it superbly! Even though he knew she wasn't seeing anyone, and logically knew she wasn't getting married, to me in that very moment, in that micro-second of first seeing her, he just had a sickening thought flash through his mind that something was happening that he didn't know about, and his stomach fell through the floor. Of course an instant later his logic came to the fore. And he saw it as a nudge that he needed to do something before that terrible thought became reality!!!

The only mean-ness was making him think it for that for that split second. But it was a good thing. He needed to think that for him to realise what he could lose.

Kerry,

No apologies necessary! I know I was a little mean to Jacob, but hey, he deserved it. Keeping poor Rachel on tenterhooks like that!

What you wrote? YES, that is exactly what I was hoping to convey to the reader. Seeing her in that dress opened up a whole new line of thought. Previously Jacob had considered the only way he could lose her was if she would be physically removed from his life. If she were killed in the line of duty, if she did decide to take him up on the transfer request. That it hadn't occured to him that she might meet someone and fall in love. Be removed from him emotionally but not physically.

Hey guys,

Posted a new one today. It's called "The Hospital" because, obviously, that's where it's set.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6286850/1/The_Hospital

Kerry and Susan are to blame for this one. Susan, awhile ago in the "Challenges" thread, suggested a story where Jacob had appendicitis. And Kerry said she was looking forward to a story where Jacob and Rachel blow their secret. They don't exactly do that here - but they get pretty darn close.

Hope y'all enjoy.

Wow...I have been waiting for this. Loved it! Had a little bit of everything. Enjoyed the humor. I bet Jacob knew all along it was his appendix but was to stubborn to stop work. The credit card comment about the escort was hilarious and typical Jacob. Very impressed you managed to add some science to this story as well. Must have done some research on that as well as hospital procedures. Very true to both characters as how they reacted throughout the fic. Really thought their secret was out...good thinking. Hope you plan another chapter or two of recuperation at home!

Better fix my clan dinner now...I put it off to read this...haha!

Glad you enjoyed the story. Yes, the credit card comment was very typical Jacob, going right for the irrelevant! I was going to have Rachel ask Felix if his informtion came from wikipedia, but decided against it.

I don't think Jacob realized he had appendicitis at first. Like most men, he would prefer to ignore his physical aliments until forced to deal with them. In an earlier version, I had him tell Rachel that his stomach pain and nausea was becasue she refused to go out for lunch and they had to eat the junk in the FBI cafeteria!

As for the research - not as hard as it looks. Like Felix, I find many interesting things in wikipedia. And of course, google is our friend!

Hi, girls! Haven't been here in ages--vacation, catching up with work/Rooftop, sick hubby (now better).

I really liked this story a lot, Joyce. (Of course, I like all your stories.) In this one, you managed a good mix of the personal and the procedural. Also, as I said on the Rooftop, I appreciated the humor you sprinkled in. The credit card conversation was priceless!

I agree with you Joyce. Jacob probably didn't know what he had and didn't want to, either. They never really want to know, do they, the big babies! I'm quite mindful of my own recent experiences with hubby and Numbat's eloquent and timely plea for understanding of the male mind, so I'm just kidding about the "babies" part. Mostly. But I do think many men are so afraid that it's something deadly serious that they just would rather not know, even a man as intelligent as Jacob.

(Whereas I, as an intelligent, sensible woman, do the only logical thing there is to do when I think, for example, I may be having a stroke. I look it up on the Internet. ;) )

I'm looking forward to a sequel covering the recuperation period, if you get around to it. I think that nurses outfit Numbat suggested could come into play somewhere, don't you?

Rue,

I'm glad to hear that your hubby is on the mend. But I do agree with you, that men do tend to ignore physical problems. I had to deal with my hubby suffering one gout attack after another all freaking summer! From May until mid-August. There isn't much they can do for gout, but he refused to go to the doctor to see if there was anything they could do to just lessen the pain. He was convinced it would just "go away." So yeah, Jacob would ignore the pain cause he was sure it would just go away.

Don't know if I'll do a recuperation story. I might, I have a niggling little idea of Jacob and Rachel deciding to spend the second part of his time off somewhere other than Deale. And maybe something interesting will happen?? We'll see - I've got another trip starting tomorrow, so I'll have lots of boring travel time to fill. BUT there will be no nurse's uniform for Rachel. I don't care what you and Numbat want!

I always think back the Rachel saying "he always thinks as a scientist". That is why I thought he may have known ,as his symptoms progressed, that he may have appendicitis. It may have crossed his mind but then he was typical male and dismissed it or chose to ignor it. He was quick to say...take me to the ER I think I have appendicitis. If it was not on his mind he may have said take me to the ER I am pretty sick. Oh well...just for the sake of argument ...I guess... as we tend to analyze!

I would like to see a recuperation story because I think Jacob would be difficult to handle at home as he would not want to follow MD orders. But I could see that it may have no direction to go in. I have always hoped the gal would do one for her ADOF fanfic. You could have a recuperation story with a flash back to the Felix story where they had to lie about relationships before. I agree with Rue that story would be fun! I will love anything you came up with!

Have a safe trip Joyce.

Glad hubby is better Rueful.

Looking forward to the wedding Numbat.

Ok, I've decided that we're both right about Jacob knowing about the appendicitus. You're right, becasue yes, even though he's not a medical doctor, he does know a lot about diseases and such from his work as a biophysist. I'm right in that Jacob has the ability to focus on what is in front of him - to compartamentalize. So I imagine that while he was concentrating on the work for the NIH, the back of his mind was cataloging his symptoms. It wasn't until Frank came and he was ready to leave that his mind put it all together - nausea, check; loss of appetite, check; vomiting, check; pain in lower right abdominal region, check. Damn, I've got appendictitus.

I also wish that the gal doing ADOF would come back to it and add a recuperation, TLC chapter. She seemed to be heading in that direction.

Got some good news/bad news for you. Good news, Lattelady is back writing. Bad news, it's a fic for the movie Inception. Good story, but not J/R. Worse news, when she finishes this one, she wants to finsih up some others she had left incomplete. TS is NOT on the top of this list. She's having hand surgery next month, but will be able to type and wants to work on things after that.
But she does seem commited to finishing TS eventually.

Funny how we all see things a bit different at times. When push comes to shove I guess the author is always right...haha! Glad to hear Lattelady is back to writing. I do hope she does finish TS at some point but understand its not her priority. Hard to keep a show that is off the air fresh on peoples minds...except us crazy die-hards! I am ok with that since you did a spin off of TS, which gave me some closure on it. Wish her well on her surgery. Looking forward to your next one....and of course...the wedding!

To me, writng about EH is no more strange than writing fan fics about movies. Yeah, it's off the air, but at least we have 18 hours of characterizaiton to draw on rather than 90 minutes! And yes, I think both Rachel and Jacob grew as characters ove those 18 episodes. The Rachel and Jacob of Medea are different people than the Rachel and Jacob of Resurrection. What can I say, thank god for DVDs!

Ok, I had twelve hours in a plane and some significant down time connected to last week's conference. The result is posted here:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6319310/1/Rendition

Rue, just as kygal inspired the last story, you inspired this one. It's a flashback, to the time when Rachel was first assigned to Hood. It's a very Rachel centric story. We were told in the series that Rachel was this tough as nails, kick-ass FBI agent. But we hardly ever got to see that side of her. So I wrote a story that allowed Rachel to (figuratively) kick some ass.

Hope y'all enjoy.

We forget Rachel was very kick-ass and Hood did need protection from many enemies. Really enjoyed this. What a nice Sunday treat! I love them in a relationship stories but I also enjoy these types of fics where they admire and appreciate each other in a working relationship. Very nice! Did remind me of some of Jades early EH work....which I miss. Still hoping for that recuperation story...haha.

Joyce, that was a really fun story! I enjoyed reading that so much (and am pleased that I in any way inspired such great work). I agree with kygal, as much as I love the romance/relationship stories, these types of stories remind me how I liked the TV series for their working relationship and cases. Thanks for bringing it back to life!

Hey ladies!!!

Sorry i haven't been here for a while. I don't really know why, i have no valid excuse.

Except that for some reason, once Joyce started coming to the RoofTop i seem to have stopped coming here. Which was silly because i see that i've missed out on all the good conversations - what do you mean there won't be a nurses uniform story???? Why oh why oh why?????

Rendition was fantastic. As the others have commented, it's always great to read something that harks back to the days of actual EH rather than just relationship stuff. Except somehow, these type of stories always make me think about what we're missing not having any more episodes to watch. Although i guess you're right, a movie only gives us a couple of hours at most, so we're lucky having 18 episodes.

And all the time we have Joyce to write extra episodes for us, i guess we shouldn't complain too much!! It's just a shame someone can't turn your fantastic stories into actual shows for us Joyce. Your scripts are just as good (if not better than some!!!) as the original episode scripts.

It was great to see Rachel taking centre stage with her no nonsense attitude (and she was right as usual!!!). But you know i loved Jacob in this with his sighing and complaining and not wanting to be there. He's just so funny and gorgeous.........

Ummm, maybe someting to do with real life? You know, those pesky people we call family and friends who seem to think we need to pay attention to them??? Plus, you've been busy with your own stories!

numbat wrote:what do you mean there won't be a nurses uniform story???? Why oh why oh why?????

'Cause Rachel reminded me that she carries a gun. And no, Rue, I am NOT going to write a story with Felix in a nurse's uniform. He's already pissed of with me cause I mentioned what happened in Sacramento. He thought what happened in Sacrament would stay in Sacramento.

I'm glad that everyone liked Rendition. The nice thing about it was that it was legal based - all about crimes, interogations and stuff which I didn't have to research at all. So that was a definite help in getting it written so quickly.

But I gotta say, everyone loves Jacob's "feel my forehead" bit when I gave Rachel the best line in the whole story "my brief is to protect you against threats to your life, not your virture" Ha, I crack myself up sometimes.

numbat wrote:Your scripts are just as good (if not better than some!!!) as the original episode scripts.

And your stories are just as good as some books I've paid money to read! You really, really, need to collect your J/R stories and make them into a book. I mean, novelizations of TV shows and movies sell all the time.

That was a very good line Joyce, and i did laugh when i read it. We've commented before haven't we, that it's a shame we can't sit and talk and discuss these stories properly because there's so much to talk about (like our favourite lines etc), that typing really doesn't do justice to. Unfortunately we can only make our replies so long can't we, or we'd be here all night and no story writing would ever get done!!! But to sit and talk about them face to face would be wonderful!!!

And i'm pleased to know that you crack yourself up sometimes, because you crack me up too!!! :D

Kerry,

We should look into Skype. My daughter has friends abroad the semester and she talks about "vid chatting" with them. I'll get details from her and get back to you. Cause you are right, it would be nice to be able to talk for real about favorite lines, decisions on plots, stuff like that.

And while I'm glad I crack you up, I wasn't jesting about you publishing your work. Like I said, I'm a reader, and your stuff truely is as good as any of the published books I've read. You wrote once about trying your hand at a romance novel and I think you should go for it.
