 I love Marley. I didn't like her very much as the beginning but her performance got a lot better and I can't see another actress playing Rachel Young.

I didn't mind her at the beginning; I just kept double taking at her blonde hair. It took several episodes for me to stop that, I swear. I know, totally ridiculous, but that's me and my blonde idiocies!

But, yeah, she definitely has gotten way better as the season progressed!

I like blondes especially when they have fair skin and blue or green eyes. I probably would not have given this show a chance if I had not seen Rachel. I like tough females who are independent, have goals and work hard to accomplish their goals. I enjoy her responses to the comments and actions of Hood. I think they make a good team.

Funny, most people didn't like her at in the first episodes, but I liked her from the beginning. I think she was just awesomely cool and tough XD. But I like her the best at the end, and in H2O, (during Jacob's freakout), the super J/R-ness! :).

And yeah, kickass chicks ftw! XD

It's because she was trying too hard to be cool in the beginning. But I don't judge characters beyond the archetype during the pilot and the first few episodes so it's all good.

What you do have to keep in mind during the early episodes is that Rachel is battling a lot of stereotypes from her end. She's small, blonde, and, dear gods, female! And here she's been handed 'control' of a high-value asset to the FBI, ordered to keep him from blowing himself up or allowing anyone else to blow him up. You'd be trying to put your toughest foot forward too. She and Hood had been working together... uh, two months? - in the pilot ep, and he still wasn't making things easy for her. I have complete sympathy for Rachel acting the way she did in the early eps; her position couldn't have been comfortable.

temp ms thread

Postby luvinx » 26 Apr 2009, 15:50

Edit (Nikki): The temp ms thread/"You play at..." posts were removed from the "You play at..." thread and merged with the Marley Shelton thread due to the off topic caused by none other than myself. The segway into the off topic, posted by me, is as follows: "In other interview-related comments, I hope that, if they have deleted scenes, they put in the part where Marley slips, screams and grabs onto Rufus."

Ah, yes. I just re-watched that interview today. That is a MUST for the Season One DVD set.

My mom thinks I'm mad cuz I've already declared that I'm buying the dvds (and the dvds for Castle too, but she doesn't know that, XD)... I don't think she realises how often I watch EH... She just doesn't get the whole rewatching things thing. But, then, she's the one who's watching, oh, fifteen shows...? Maybe more.

Yeah, she said that in some interview with some guy I can't remember. Apparently it was during one of the first days they spent filming too!

Ah, yes, the Marley Shelton interview!! Well, looks like I'm finally good for something, and apparently it's linking in interviews! :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO4bgDDifAg Yep, first time they roll film on she and Rufus during the first episode, she slips on the freshly polished floor, she then 'let[s] out the girliest shriek, and grab[s] onto poor Rufus for dear life...'

I sooooo hope that one's on the deleted scenes/outtakes in the DVDs. For one thing, I so want to see Rufus' reaction!! Of course, he's probably used to women throwing themselves on him by now.

(laughs) Well... I did mention at one point ( think in a review reply from A Woman Scorned?) that I find it very easy to get into Rachel's head, because she and I seem to share an alarming number of personality traits. And a few physical ones as well.

EDIT (Nikki): Sorry for the edit, just trying to make everything more clear on what's going on.

It's a bit easier for me to understand Hood... probably because I have a science background. I'm not as broody, though.

Lol Rufus's reaction. And Marley's shriek.

I know. It'll be hilarious to finally see that. Watching the interview, I'm struck by the difference between Marley and Rachel. Rachel seems far more self-contained and in control. Marley is very... well, girly. Even the pitch of her voice is different.

And... should we be moving this to the MS forum? We're going off=topic. As usual. :D

Sure, I can move some of the posts into the Marley Shelton thread. And that's exactly why I'm not concerned with off topic - I can fix it!

Yeah, you're right, Marley is a quite girly... and I can't say that I could picture Rachel wearing those shoes!

Yeah, those heels... I don't understand how she can walk in those. Anytime I put on footwear higher than two inches I'm afraid I'm going to break an ankle.

Although I imagine the FBI does have some control/regulation over their agent's dress. Presumably, there is a stipulation that all clothing must be suitable for physical activities such as running, etc... and you can't tell me there's any way she could run in those. That is one thing that drives me nuts about Det. Beckett on Castle. She wears those absurdly high-heeled boots all the time, and yet they still show her running around in them. Least realistic part of the series, in all honesty, is Beckett's footwear.

Hey, in the X-Files, they even lampooned Scully's heels, XD

And, as disturbing as it may sound, you can actually run in heels. I've done it. And they weren't even boots, they were sandals! (And, um, obviously she can run in the heels since she, uh, runs in the heels. XD)

But, yes, I agree. It's totally impractical and ridiculous.

And now I'm going to be paying attention to Rachel's shoes. Dammit.
